Camp for goalies begins next week
Calling all football enthusiasts…next week the National Sports Council will launch the pilot phase of a national goalkeeping workshop at the M.C.C. Grounds in Belize City. According to Tournament Coordinator, Marvin Ottley, participants don’t need to come with any kind of football skills to have fun and learn the game for free. This morning Ottley told News Five that while this programme is designed to focus on the younger generation, the long term effects will have positive results on the semi-pro league.

?Over the past two years, goal keeping has been lacking. If you follow football closely it has been only Charlie Slusher, Shane Moody, Darren Hinds, who have been the popular goalkeepers over the past two years. When you look at the other string of goalkeepers, they are way down below. I think we need to start now to start develop more goalkeepers to reach the level of a Charlie Slusher, Darren Hinds, and Shane Moody.?

?What age group are you looking to participate in the camp??
Marvin Ottley
?Well we want to, from age fourteen, but specifically we want coaches, and we want to touch on some female as much as possible. The information that we have, the way the workshop is set up, the information is smooth enough that from age fourteen they could grasp that type of information and work on it for the future.?
Interested persons can register for the camp on Monday morning before the workshop starts at nine. The activity is free of cost. Day one will feature the theory aspect of the course, but for outside events, in case of inclement weather the council will announce alternate venues.
