Late Afternoon Inferno Destroys Home on Allenby Street
Just before four-thirty this evening, fire destroyed a home at number one forty four Allenby Street in Belize City. There were three structures in the corner lot, including the two-storey wooden and cement building, which housed Wingan Shop. News Five understands that the blaze started somewhere in the upper flat of the building. Residents of the area watched in shock as the fire consumed the building. It appears that most, if not all, of the contents of the house were destroyed in the blaze. An onlooker reports that the fire didn’t spread to the shop, but the goods may have suffered minor water damage. According to eye witnesses, at this early stage there have been no reports of injuries and it is unknown if anyone was inside the building when the fire began. Several firemen were on the scene and eventually put out the flames, but onlookers allege that when the truck arrived on the scene it didn’t have any water. We called Orin Smith from the Fire Department but he told us that he was just getting in the city and would speak with us on Thursday when we will have more on this story.
