Magistrate troubled by Floyd Brown’s I.D.
Two men wanted by U.S. authorities for alleged drug trafficking offences six years ago will be given an extradition hearing despite some confusion about the identity of one of the men. Today Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord told attorneys for Andrew “Papa” Brown and Floyd Brown that he will proceed with a full extradition hearing and allow Floyd to give testimony in regard what appears to be inadequate identification by U.S. authorities. If he can prove he is not Jaswan Brown, the name listed on the extradition request, he will be discharged. Chief Magistrate Lord said he was unable to make an identification from an unclear photograph which was submitted to the court and that Floyd Brown was born on a different date than that listed on the documents for the person known as Jaswan Brown. Both men were denied bail today and remanded to Hattieville until the start of the trial on July twenty-eighth. The Brown brothers are represented by attorneys Dean Barrow, Ellis Arnold and Dickie Bradley. Andrew Brown and Jaswan Brown are wanted in the United States on six charges relating to the importation of forty-two pounds of cocaine into southern Florida in 1999.
