San Pedro Lions receive international honours
This month a local service organisation and one of its members have received international acclaim for their contributions to Belizean society. Word from Lions International is that the San Pedro Lions Club has been selected as this year’s regional winner in the organisation’s annual international academy awards. Region in this case refers to South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. Official ceremonies were held in Hong Kong during a week of activities beginning on June twenty-seventh. Also receiving top honours was Belizean Milo Paz Junior, who was named first runner up in the race for 2005 Lion of the Year. That category applied to Lions Club members from all over the world. As part of their recognition, both the San Pedro Lions Club and Paz received trophies. Viewers may recall that the San Pedro Lions were instrumental in the creation of the new polyclinic on Ambergris Caye. President of the San Pedro Lions Club is Nita Marin.
