Espat Says Roll Petrocaribe in Cayo South
That’s a grand gesture by the Leader of the Opposition, but almost immediately there was some confusion in the House. According to P.U.P. Deputy Leader Julius Espat, any Petrocaribe monies spent in Cayo South will be more than welcome.
Julius Espat, Area Representative, Cayo South
“The Prime Minister is going down the worst road that any past Prime Minister in this country has gone…you see Mr. Speaker most of them on that side don’t even understand the significance of the Bill. That’s the reality and that’s why he has them bamboozled because they don’t understand, Mr. Speaker. But one last thing…he mentioned that he’ll be using the Petrocaribe money in Cayo south Mr. Speaker, and I would like to respond to you Mr. Prime Minister. Any money coming from him, coming from me, coming from Friends of Cayo South, coming from anywhere that is spent in Cayo South for the benefit of the people of Cayo south Mr. Speaker…I am all for it. I am not asking for it. I am saying that if the Prime Minister wants to invest that money for the people of Cayo South, and they are benefitting Mr. Speaker. I have no problem with it. But Mr. Speaker, everybody has their Waterloo and be careful Prime Minister…by trying to win one seat you will lose the next general election. I will make sure of that.”
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“What a shambles. The Leader of the Opposition says one thing. He beats his chest and he says that in defiance of all rationality, all political sense, he and his party will accept no assistance out of Petrocaribe monies. The last speaker, as did the speaker before him, turned right around and made clear that on behalf of their people they will accept every cent that the government can give from Petrocaribe. What a rudderless, leaderless group that is on that side of the House.”
