Who Will Replace Bradley in City Hall?

Darrell Bradley

Looking ahead, however…if the mayor is to step down, who will replace him as municipal leader for Belize City? Today, premature or not, the media asked Bradley about a possible successor to his seat.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with the ten councilors, both in the first term and this term, who really show a lot of promise. I believe that people like Dion Leslie who has held office as deputy mayor before…when Mayor Moya was on maternity leave for three months, he held the reigns for three months. That shows a lot of promise. He is very active in terms of community service; he is the head of the cycling association; so he shows a career business person, somebody who is educated, somebody who can speak well. Bernard Pitts, likewise, shows that same kind of promise. He comes from a strong political family; he comes from an environment that is very much into union activism. He is an MIS person so again he has his education, he is very much grounded in young people and sports. I look at Kevin Singh, I look at Dean Samuels, who likewise is the current deputy mayor, was deputy mayor previously. I look at Alifa Elrington, who is an attorney at law, who speaks very well, who is very aggressive. I look at Doctor Alain Gonzalez, who is a medical doctor, somebody with character and integrity so that I feel that the field is very wide in terms of who will be a successor.”

We note that if Bradley is to step down as mayor of Belize City, according to the laws, there will be a by-election for the elected seat.
