Chain robber arrested after victim?s I.D.
Shane Espinosa, a twenty-nine year old labourer of Mahogany Street in Belize City is behind bars tonight after allegedly pulling a fast one on popular Albert Street taxi driver Darwin McKenzie. Espinosa appeared before Magistrate Earl Jones, where he pleaded not guilty to robbery and was remanded to custody until August twelfth. McKenzie reported to police that around eleven Monday morning while at the Albert Street taxi stand, he was approached by a man he knows only as Shane who offered to sell him a bike. McKenzie agreed go to Logwood Street to inspect, but when they reached the area, Espinosa instead told McKenzie he had a gun and pulled off his gold chain valued at one thousand, five hundred dollars. He then told the taxi driver to get out of the area before he shot him. Fearing for his life, McKenzie left. He soon reported the matter to the police who arrested and charged Espinosa when they found him on Tuesday.
