Sheffield Brown Arraigned for Groping Chinese Businesswoman
Thirty-nine-year-old Sheffield Brown is tonight on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being unable to meet bail for allegedly groping a Chinese businesswoman. Brown, a resident of Welch Street, was arraigned earlier today in the courtroom of Magistrate Ladonna John where he appeared unrepresented. He was read a single charge of sexual assault following an allegation that Brown grabbed the woman’s breast. In court, Brown testified that he did not intentionally assault the grocer. He said that he visited the store to purchase a few items and upon exiting the premises he raised his hand, accidentally touching the woman’s chest area. Police prosecutor Corporal Christopher Smith objected to Brown’s account of what transpired, explaining that the information he gathered did not corroborate Brown’s story. The alleged victim reported that she was driving her vehicle along Antelope Street when Brown jumped in front of her and grabbed her. Brown was granted bail in the sum of three thousand dollars and ordered him to report to the Raccoon Street Police Station once a week and restrained him from making contact with the victim or her family members. Since the court was closed for business at midday, Brown was unable to secure bail and was escorted to the Hattieville prison.
