Fire Department Investigates
In speaking with News Five today, Stephen Bradley said the skiff, Miss Din, was regularly maintained since he bought it twelve years ago. Bradley also pointed out that a new engine was installed just last year. So what caused the fire? Well, the fire department has been doing its investigations. Today, Benisford Matura of the National Fire Service explained what led to the explosions and resulted in the fire.
Benisford Matura, Operations Officer, National Fire Service
“Our investigation into this matter revealed that they were heading out to the cayes and they had on the front of the boat, two five gallons filled with gasoline. Apparently, one of the five gallon container wasn’t closed properly and the fumes from the container reached to the initial source where the engine was and that made the five gallon container exploded which started the whole fire and the whole mishap.”
