Cyclist killed in highway accident
An accident last night on the Western Highway has left a bicyclist dead, a family in mourning, and the passengers of a bus shaken. News Five visited the scene today.

Sixty-two year old Gerald Mervin Underwood usually rode his bike to his home near mile six on the Western Highway. But as he pedalled down the highway on Thursday night he was knocked off his bicycle and killed between miles three and four.

Underwood was hit by a Nissan car driven at the time by twenty-nine year old Alfonso Peyrefitte.

?Peyrefitte, after knocking down Underwood reportedly lost control his car and collided into the rear wheel of a bus that was travelling in the opposite direction. Luckily, none of the passengers onboard the bus received injuries.?

Peyrefitte has been charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, and driving without due care and attention.
Peyrefitte and his passenger received only minor injuries after their car crashed into the bus.
