S.J.C. teams with Cisco for computer course

Story PictureSaint John’s College Junior College and Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the internet, have established a working partnership that has led to the launch of a local Cisco Networking Academy. The programme prepares students for networking and I.T. related careers, as well as for higher education in engineering, computer science, and related fields. The Cisco certified networking associate, or C.C.N.A. courses, will be offered through the school’s evening programme. Presently four of the college’s teachers are undergoing the training that will certify them as C.C.N.A. teachers. News Five caught up with one of the faculty members, Stuart Simmons Jr., who told us more about the initiative.

?Presently, we do not have any programme in Belize that allows for the training in this area, specifically in this particular area. You find that schools offer a computer science programme, some basic networking support and stuff like that. So I see it as definitely meeting our needs for the business. We find for example, just recently the press release went out and already we are having a few from different companies calling and asking us about the programme and so forth.?

?There are four different courses in this programme, C.C.N.A. one through four. The basis behind them is to meet internet needs or the programme will focus in this area. So a person who wants to become an internet supporter, developer, and maintenance of internet networks, this course will offer for that need.?

The courses are scheduled to begin in August. If you are interested in the C.C.N.A. classes you can call S.J.C. Junior College at 223-3731 or 223-3732.
