Accused rapist acquitted in Supreme Court

An accused rapist on trial in the Supreme Court this afternoon walked out a free man. According to court reports, twenty-two year old Kareem Witty was arrested and charged with the crime following a report to the police by his ex-girlfriend that on the night of October tenth 2003 he had taken her out dancing at a club and then, at her house, beat her and forced her to have sex. From the witness stand, the accused maintained his innocence claiming the sex was consensual. Through his attorney Hubert Elrington, Witty maintained to the court that the woman’s story was a fabrication, spawned by fear of her new boyfriend finding out. It took the jury of seven men and two women two hours and forty minutes to return a not guilty verdict.
