Tourists touched in Pine Ridge hold-up
Armed robbers were also active in Cayo’s Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve over the weekend as a local family and van full of tourists were victimized near the Rio Frio Cave. According to police reports, four men, believed to be Guatemalans, and armed with an automatic rifle, handgun, and machete, accosted the visitors to the popular attraction and relieved them of cash, jewellery, and other items. Similar robberies have been reported at the Maya site of Xunantunich and on the Macal River, but such attacks in the Mountain Pine Ridge, relatively far from the Guatemalan border, have been rare.
