UB Students Raise Earth Day Awareness
And from Guanacaste Park to the University of Belize- the Earth Day celebration continues. We stopped in at UB to check out the festivities, where visiting students were able to participate in an all-day interactive booth display. Students of the Natural Resources Management Program teamed up with several local organizations to raise awareness and celebrate the day. Here’s what Programme Coordinator Joaquin Magana had to say about their earth day celebrations.
Joaquin Magaña, Programme Coordinator, Marine Biology/NRM, University of Belize
”We have been celebrating Earth Day for the past nine years and the essence of this is for the nation and the community to know more about what we are all about here at UB, particularly for the program. We try to bring in the N.G.O.s, the different organizations to participate as well as the ministries so that they can display their stuff and what they do to the people, to the community and what they do…and to the nation. And the students are here to also showcase some of the projects that they carry on for the semester and some of them…this year we divided certain groups so that we have different games for the students that are visiting. Normally, we try to bring in as much students as possible. This year we went big and we were able to bring ten different schools from the community and the surroundings. We brought students from kindergarten, primary schools and high schools.”
