Accused molester arrested and charged

Story PicturePolice have located a man accused by a Belize City youth of sodomizing him earlier this week. On Wednesday, a fourteen-year-old Belize City boy told police the driver of a red van with taxi plates induced him and a friend to get in his vehicle by pretending to be the youth’s uncle. The friend panicked when he discovered other men in the vehicle and jumped out, but the other boy says he was unable to get away, even after the other men were dropped off and he was alone with the driver. The boy alleges he was then driven all the way to Burrell Boom and taken to a house where he was sexually assaulted. When the man brought him back to the city, he told his father what had happened and they went to the police. On Thursday, police picked up a suspect based on a license plate number provided by the youth. News Five was outside the court this afternoon.

Thirty-six year old Trevor Henry of Belize City was taken over to the Magistrate Court where he was formally charged with an unnatural crime. Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid says authorities are now investigating to see if other children may have been victims.

?We are certainly looking at that. There are a number of individuals that we know have been seen with the individual. We certainly do not want to speculate or cast any aspersions. Certainly at this point it is only an allegation, we do believe we have enough evidence to levy charges, but certainly we do not want to go into the area of speculation.?

On Thursday, police arrested Henry after they intercepted the red van he was driving. Inside the vehicle, police also found a couple of young boys. Police believe the children are between the ages of twelve and fifteen years old.

?This was very, very alarming, in particular given the nature of the case or the unnatural nature if you will and the fact that we are talking about minors. We are always concerned when our minors are at risk, when our children are being affected in any way. This has a traumatic effect, a lasting effect on the lives of these young children and eventually these children grow up from experience to be problems for society. So certainly the police are very, very concerned and we?re asking anyone who knows of any situation that might be similar to please some forward, contact the police, and investigations will be done.?

Parents are being advised to monitor their children.

G. Michael Reid
?That these children are properly supervised, that they know where they are and that they are engaged in positive activity.?

Henry has been remanded to the Hattieville Prison until July eighth when he is scheduled to reappear in court.
