Appeal backfires; criminal faces life

A career criminal with more than forty convictions to his discredit, tried to get his latest prison sentence reduced, but finds himself facing life behind bars. Kenrick Domingo, otherwise known as Buck Dougal, was sentenced to ten years for the rape of a woman near M.J.’s Night Club on West Canal in September of 2003. He recently appealed that sentence, hoping it would be cut down. Instead, the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal and agreed with the D.P.P. that ten years was in fact too lenient. Today, the case was heard in Supreme Court by Justice Michelle Arana, where Crown Counsel in the D.P.P.’s office, Cheryl-Lyn Branker-Taitt pointed out that the Crimes Control Act prescribes a mandatory life sentence for third offences of violent crime. Justice Arana adjourned the matter until July twenty-ninth and advised Domingo to get himself a good lawyer.
