Accused killer ruled insane

In other court news, forty-five year old David Dakers, charged with murder, has been found incompetent to stand trial due to mental illness. On Monday, the jury of twelve men and women heard the testimony of psychiatrist Dr. Roy Lopez who described Dakers as suffering from bipolar disorder. The defendant, he said, is prone to hallucinations and delusions, provoking paranoia and violence. Following the doctor’s diagnosis, it took the jury only eight minutes to come to the conclusion that Dakers was insane and unfit to stand trial. He had been accused in the October first, 2003, beating death of Dwight Blackett on Racecourse Street in Belize City. Blackett was flogged to death with a piece of wood. Dakers will now return to prison where he will be held indefinitely.
