Rig keeps drilling but no oil yet

Last week we brought you the story of a group of investors in the Cayo District who are drilling for oil in Spanish Lookout. And while we regret to inform viewers that no petroleum has yet been discovered, latest reports from the west say the bit is still boring through the ground and has now reached a depth of one thousand, six hundred feet. The rig has broken through the thick clay floor and officials of Belize Natural Energy say they are now into the rock foundation. B.N.E. personnel will give no further details, but according to director Sheila McCaffery, everything is going as expected. “We are happy with the progress”, said McCaffery by telephone, noting that technicians expect to complete the drilling within the next two weeks.
