Requena Brothers Charged for Drug Trafficking
Brothers Giovanni and Ellis Requena appeared in court today for drug trafficking. In mitigation plea, Ellis Requena maintained that he wasn’t guilty and was set free to go when Giovanni, who appeared unrepresented, changed his not guilty plea to guilty. He begged Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer for leniency telling the court that he was only selling drugs to provide for his child. As a first time offender and because he saved the court’s time, Requena wasn’t given jail time but he was hit with a ten thousand dollar fine that must be paid by August thirty first of this year. If he doesn’t pay the fine, he goes to jail for three years.
The discovery of the sixty pounds of cannabis happened in early July of last year. Police set chase on a car that tried to avoid the checkpoint between miles fifteen and sixteen on the George Price Highway. The car was subsequently found abandoned at a parking lot near a supermarket and a check inside the establishment led to the two brothers. In the vehicle police discovered the marijuana and identification documents belonging to Giovanni.
