Murder on West Canal Thursday night

Story PictureBelize City police believe another murder may be related to the incident at Olympic Restaurant and are seeking a suspect. On Thursday night, the shooting victim was standing near an alley on West Canal talking to a woman when a young man rode up on a bicycle and fired several shots. This morning a relative spoke with News Five’s Jacqueline Woods about the incident and the family’s displeasure with the way authorities responded at the scene.

?This young man, according to what I understand, pass all the time, even hail my young brother. But I couldn?t believe he would have killed ah; one shot kill ah.?

Another young man is gunned down in what is believed to be yet another senseless murder. This time the victim is twenty-one year old Sydney Bradley of a West Canal address. The shooting occurred just after ten on Thursday night. Delma Bradley says she was already in bed when she heard several gunshots, then she received the news that her brother had just been shot.

?I hear about three to four gunshots let go. When I get up, my sister holler and tell me that my brother get shot. I see he run dah back in my neighbour yard and my friend holler that he get shot. I ask, ?Weh he get shot?? In his chest. But he apparently feel that dah in his hands he get shot, because he di base on that. ?Mi hand blow off, mi hand blow off.? So the neighbour holler for we and tell we that Sydney got shot in his chest, so I come downstairs immediately.?

Bradley says they were not sure if the shooter was still in the area and she called 911, but was told that a police mobile unit had already been dispatched to the scene. That is when she saw her wounded brother come from the back holding his chest.

?I see a hole in his chest here and one in his back. So he walk strong from the backyard going to the gate and when I look I see he enter one of the police vehicles.?

However, Bradley claims her brother was not taken immediately to the hospital but alleges that the police stayed in the area some fifteen to twenty minutes before they transported Bradley to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. He later died in the operating room.

The police have been given a description and name of a suspect, but so far no one has been arrested.

Also on Thursday night, two men were shot while inside a house on Police Street. Taxi driver Theodore Augustine told police that just after midnight he heard two shots fired outside. When he looked out his window, three additional shots were fired in his direction, one of which grazed him on the forehead. Another man in the house, who was lying in bed, was hit in the ribs. This evening police say they have picked up two minors, aged fifteen and seventeen, and charged them with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of deadly means of harm, and one count each for damage to property.
