Problems in Mexico mean blackouts for Belize
More woes for B.E.L. Around four-thirty this afternoon the entire nation was once again plunged into blackout. The cause was an explosion at the Xul-Ha generating plant west of Chetumal, which cut off the supply of Mexican electricity to Belize. While B.E.L. managed to get the power back online from Mollejon and the gas turbine, they were still short of satisfying about thirty percent of demand and have initiated a series of rotating outages. Repairs are being made at Xul-Ha, but the Mexican current is not expected to return before late tonight.
