Honduran National Jose Gomez Charged with Sexual Assault

Shortly before noon today, thirty four year old Jose Gomez, who is a Honduran national was taken to court in handcuffs and arraigned for Burglary for entering the home of a woman of the Burrell Boom area with the intent to rape her eleven year old girl. Gomez is also facing a charge of Sexual Assault for inappropriate behaviour toward the minor. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and the court prosecutor, Inspector Egbert Castillo, objected to bail being granted to him on the grounds that Gomez is not a Belizean and could be considered a flight risk. He also submitted that Gomez may try to interfere with the victim and her mother.  Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith agreed with the prosecutor and denied bail to Gomez and remanded him to the Belize Central Prison until September fourth, 2015. The Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith has ordered that a social worker be assigned to the case since the child Gomez is accused of molesting is only eleven years old.  The allegation is that Gomez entered the child’s house on December fourth, 2014. He caressed and made advances at her, and when she screamed, her mother woke up. Gomez ran through their front door and managed to escape, but was later arrested.
