Julius Espat Says G.O.B. is Simply Trying to Cover Up Misconduct

Julius Espat

As we mentioned earlier, P.U.P. Deputy Leader Julius Espat has commenced legal proceedings against the prime minister in respect of the perceived illegalities of the Petrocaribe Loans Act.  After carefully reading the revised bill, Espat maintains that government continues to muddy the waters by implementing only sections of the Finance and Audit Reform Act.  He says the Barrow administration is simply trying to mask its misconduct.

Julius Espat, Deputy Leader, P.U.P.

“They are confusing the whole situation.  They are saying now that the Finance and Audit Reform Act is not necessary because we are passing a law and we are going to deal with it in a different way only a part of it is necessary.  So you are creating administrative confusion, you’re creating legal confusion where we have everything set out already.  There is a constitution and under that constitution you have your Finance and Audit Reform Act and it’s clearly spelt out how things are supposed to be done.  So that just gives you one example of what they are trying to do.  They are trying to patch things as we go along; meaning, as our claim proceeds they are looking at it, they realize that they are wrong and they are trying to find ways on how to better just that specific claim.  But it goes back to one thing, they are trying to cover up themselves as politicians in wrongdoings that they did and they know more than anybody else that the wrongdoings that they did have criminal ramifications.”
