Foul play not suspected in San Pedro deaths
In San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, two tourists have died, but police do not suspect foul play in either case. On Saturday, the body of fifty-one year old U.S. citizen Kevin Riley was discovered floating in the sea near Banana Beach Resort. Riley had last been seen by the resort’s security personnel around two a.m. when he apparently went out for a swim. A post-mortem is pending but police report no visible signs of violence on the body.
The next day, officers were called to a residence in the town’s Boca del Rio area, where they saw the lifeless and partially decomposed body of John Thomas in the bathroom. A post-mortem indicated that Thomas, a resident of the state of Oregon, died of head trauma, but his body showed signs of acute alcoholism. Police believe that Thomas, who had resided in San Pedro for the last four months, had been drinking heavily and fell down, fatally hitting his head.
