P.U.P. Dangriga Area Rep Requests Father’s Day Cheer from Controversial Petrocaribe Funds
The opposition, People’s United Party, is taking the government to court for the controversial Petrocaribe Loans Act seeking a declaration that it is an illegal piece of legislation. Government has now circulated an amendment which it proposes to take to the House in June presumably to silence and give comfort to critics who are concerned that the Loans Act gives government the power to do pretty much as it pleases with the Petrocaribe Funds. Now, the opposition has said it won’t take up the funding but somehow someone within the ranks did not get the memo. The Ministry of Finance issued a release today to say that it has received and approved the request of an Opposition Representative to access the Mothers’/Fathers’ Day Constituency Fund from the Petrocaribe Program. That representative, we have learnt, is Ivan Ramos from the Dangriga constituency who recently took shots at the P.U.P. hinting that he was being pushed out. The government is allotting twenty five thousand dollars for opposition representatives while U.D.P. elected representatives and other party reps are getting seventy-five thousand dollars.
