U.D.P. Port Loyola convention this weekend
There has been no announcement of early General Elections, but that is not stopping the United Democratic Party from getting their machinery in shape, just in case. This weekend, the U.D.P. is holding its Port Loyola Convention and Area Representative Anthony “Boots” Martinez intends to retain the division and take the needs of his people to Belmopan once more when election day does come.

He?s been pounding the pavement in Port Loyola for weeks, galvanizing support for his bid to once again be the U.D.P.?s representative in the constituency. Anthony ?Boots? Martinez says he has delivered for his people and expects them to send him back to Belmopan when elections are called.
Anthony ?Boots? Martinez, Incumbent, Port Loyola
?I have always been a hard worker, always been working for the people. And like anything else, there comes a time when the people must decide. So, continuous work. And with me I am in no panic mood, just to make sure, as I have always been making sure that the people of Port Loyola, fighting for the people of Port Loyola to ensure that they get the basic goods and services.?
And he has his list of accomplishments to prove his hard work in the division.
Preferring to meet the voters one on one, Martinez looks to Sunday?s convention as the first step in a journey that will take him back to the halls of the National Assembly. But does he deserve a chance to be the people?s representative in Port Loyola again?
Anthony ?Boots? Martinez
?Well I think the people on Sunday will decide that. I think I have done my best and it is a good challenge because I believe it is a good midterm report. And how it turns around, it should be a good telling story for me as the representative of Port Loyola.?
Patrick Jones
?What will decide this convention for you? Is it the issues? Is it your track record??
Anthony ?Boots? Martinez
?Well I think it has to be the history, the track record dating back from 1996 in regards to getting Faber?s Road paved, and building the houses and issues like this street right here where for some time was in mud and we came out and rallied with the people and government responded at least by putting stone, forming the official lands committee and forming Port Loyola social service committee, and submitting a budget with over three thousand signatures to the National Assembly and debating that. So I think those are the issue that will count.?
And although his opponent in the convention, Dawn Lemoth, is a newcomer to the political landscape, Martinez is not taking anything for granted.
Anthony ?Boots? Martinez
?I see every opponent as formidable. So I leave nothing to chance. I continue to work and work as hard and Sunday will be my report card. I hope to get an ?A?, but I?m not in no mood to get no ?F?. So I have been working like anything else, you?re working, and probably I might get an ?A+? but the minimum I am looking for on Sunday is ?A?.

Martinez’s bid is being contested by Anglican Cathedral College teacher, Dawn Lemoth. The U.D.P. Port Loyola convention takes place on Sunday from ten a.m. to five p.m. at Excelsior High School. Other U.D.P. conventions slated for this month include Collet, Cayo South and Cayo North.
