Men shot next to police booth
Two men were shot today while sitting at a food stand on Vernon Street, just yards from a police booth in a neighbourhood designated as a “special police area.” Reports are that just before noon a man drove up on a blue and white Honda Supercab motorcycle and opened fire on Kelvin Jones and Dion Brackett. Police would recover ten spent nine-millimetre shells from the scene. Jones was hit in the abdomen and temple, while Brackett took bullets to his leg and buttocks. The injured men were transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Despite the fact that two armed B.D.F. soldiers and a police officer were on duty at the nearby booth at the time of the incident, the shooter escaped. According to police, at the time, the officer on duty was unarmed and it is suspected the B.D.F. were concerned that if they opened fire innocent passers-by would be injured.
