Senior citizen murdered in Blackman Eddy

Story PictureA quiet Cayo community was stunned today to discover an elderly resident had been brutally murdered. News Five visited the scene of the crime and spoke with the victim’s brother who is still reeling from the terrible scene that met him this morning.

Patrick Jones, Reporting
The blood stains on his bedroom wall are mute testimony of a violent attack that ended the life of sixty-seven year old John Casey on Wednesday night. The Blackman Eddy Village resident was found dead in a pool of his own blood on Thursday morning by one of his brothers. Lincoln Casey, who owns the fourteen acre farm where the deceased lived, says he was informed of the tragedy around seven-thirty this morning.

Lincoln Casey, Brother of the Deceased
?People were around and I went up and I saw him and I recognised that he was dead with a machete wound to his head. And later on the Police Department arrived on the scene and well they asked us to just clear the area so that nobody could molest or tamper with anything.?

Casey says he observed at least two large chop wounds to his brother?s head and face. Police have started an investigation to determine exactly what happened inside the two-bedroom house, but the family believes that John was attacked as he lay in his bed.

Lincoln Casey
?I believe the person attacked him inside and he was struggling inside. And perhaps they have the upper hand because he was weak. And while walking to get to the area there is where he fell and collapsed.?

Casey says he does not believe that robbery was a motive in the attack as nothing was taken from the house and the family even found a quantity of cash inside the deceased?s bed head. So who would want to kill a sixty-seven year old crippled man? And why?

Lincoln Casey
?I don?t know. The police are investigating and I couldn?t give you a clue on that.?

Patrick Jones
?Did they steal anything from him??

Lincoln Casey
?No. Nothing was stolen.?

?People won?t come out and say anything because you know they will arrest them and charge them. So just hope the good Lord, one of these days somebody might come out and say well I am the killer. But it?s very hard.?

Patrick Jones, for News Five.

News Five understands that a close relative of Casey has been detained for questioning in the murder. The Police Department is appealing to anyone with any information to speak out and assist in the investigation.
