Santa Clara Man Charged With Attempted Murder of His Wife

Up north, a housewife has given police a report of a horrifying experience she lived at the hands of her husband. Maria Pech of Santa Clara Village, Corozal claims that on Monday, she was assaulted by her husband, Joel, in her yard. While it is not known what prompted the domestic dispute, Maria claims it started when her husband refused to let her inside their house. He then allegedly assaulted her with a machete when she tried to get away from him. But Joel eventually caught up with her and dragged her by the hair and locked her inside the kitchen where the violence escalated. This is where Joel allegedly doused her with kerosene and attempted to set her on fire, but she claims she managed to wash off fuel. Thirty-four-year-old Joel has been charged with attempted murder and other charges.
