Driver pleads guilty to 4 kilos of coke
It’s been a while, but police have added another notch to their anti-narcotics belt. The latest bust occurred at the checkpoint at the Burrell Boom cut-off on the Northern Highway. Around eleven forty-five on Saturday morning a routine search of a red four door Chevy Lumina yielded close to nine pounds of cocaine. The drugs were hidden in plastic bags that were stashed between the back of the vehicle’s trunk and rear seat. As a result, police arrested the occupants of the vehicle who have been identified as thirty-one year old free zone manager, Robert Hernandez of Corozal, fifty-six year old Lincoln Flowers, and twenty-six year old Leon Flowers; both residents of California in the United States. This morning all three accused appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord, with the driver, Hernandez, taking the rap. He pleaded guilty to the charge of drug trafficking and was sent to Hattieville prison for three years. In addition, Hernandez was fined twelve thousand dollars or in default three more years in jail. Following the conviction, the charges were withdrawn against the other two defendants.
