Summer Camp Season Begins!

Peter Lacey

An annual summer school program organized by Peter Lacey is set to commence in the weeks ahead.  The brief curriculum is in its twelfth year and while thousands of primary school students will be on vacation, those struggling in particular subject areas, including math and phonics, will be receiving much needed assistance.  According to Lacey, parents interested in registering their children for the program, which has since expanded to include San Pedro and other communities in southern Belize still have a chance to do so.

Peter Lacey, Summer School Organizer

“This year is the twelfth year of existence that we are doing the summer program. We started out in 2004 and it was just in Belize City up to 2012 and since then we have expanded into Orange walk in 2012, moved into san Pedro in 2013 and then we expanded our efforts into Corozal, san Ignacio and Belmopan in 2014. Now we have added on Independence and Dangriga to go along and this year we are splitting programs in San Pedro because of transportation issues that parents had last year. So we are going to do two programs. The summer programs is for students coming out of preschool going into infant one all the way into standard five going into six. We have a wide range of subjects that we cover in ready, phonics, creative writing, we do P.S.E. prep, we do some Math as well and when the program finishes then we incorporate Arts and Craft and Sports into the program as well. The program takes no more than twenty-five students in a class, so we urge parents, they have been calling for a few weeks now because we have been giving out flyers throughout the country, and so basically this coming Wednesday our registration begins in San Pedro and also that will be held at New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist school, also in Belmopan at United Evergreen and also in Independence at Independence Primary School. So that is the first day of registration on the twenty-fourth of June. The Thursday the twenty fifth it continues, it will be in Dangriga, in Corozal and San Pedro will be at San Pedro RC School and then the third day of registration is the twenty-sixth, that will be in San Ignacio at St. Andrews School, Suga City that will be at St. Peter Anglican and also in Belize City it will be at Holy Redeemer Parish Hall. Then we conclude with a second day of registration in Belize City at Holy Redeemer Parish Hall.”
