Burrell Boom Motorist Arraigned for Manslaughter

Eddison Dawson

Forty-one year old Burrell Boom Driver, Eddison Dawson was arraigned this week again in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for two traffic related offenses stemming from a fatal accident that took the life of a Fresh Pond resident, Fabian Jacobo Martinez.  Martinez was riding his motorcycle on the Boom Road when he was hit by Dawson on October twelfth, 2013. He sustained severe head and body injuries and died two weeks later while undergoing treatment. In court on Wednesday, Dawson appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith and was arraigned for Manslaughter by Negligence and Causing Death by Careless Conduct.  Dawson, who has been in police custody since Monday morning, was offered bail again in the sum of two thousand dollars on a condition that he must report to the Burrell Boom police station every Monday until his case is disposed of. Earlier this year, Dawson saw the two charges dismissed by Magistrate Herbert Panton when his case file was not ready as was ordered by the court. Dawson was not taken aback by the charges because the magistrate had already informed him that the police can bring back the charges.
