16 Year-Old Minor is Brain Dead After Being Shot on Banak Street

But it is likely that police will have another homicide on their hands. Sixteen year old Reuben Leslie, a student of a George Price Highway address, was shot multiple times to the right leg and the center of his forehead. According to relatives, Leslie is brain-dead and is being kept alive by a ventilator at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Initial investigations are that the minor was riding his bicycle on Magazine Road and upon reaching its junction with Banak Street; a man emerged from an abandoned building in a nearby yard and fired several shots in his direction. Superintendent Hilberto Romero of the Crimes Investigation Branch spoke to the media today about the shooting.

Supt. Hilberto Romero, O.C., CIB, Eastern Division

“At 10:05, police responded to a shooting incident at Magazine Road. They visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they found Reuben Leslie with a gunshot wound to the right leg and a gunshot wound to his forehead. He is listed in a critical condition and he is at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The information we gathered that he was going home on a bicycle and at some point at Magazine Road, somebody came out from behind an abandoned house and fired two shots at him which caused the injuries.”

“Sir, this is the second shooting to have happened in that vicinity and to a minor. The first one was a fifteen year old and now a sixteen year old in the last two days. What’s happening in that area?”

“Well, we have our investigators on the ground. I know we don’t have much background on this latest victim. He was visiting his girlfriend and was heading home at the time when this incident occurred. Our patrols…there is a checkpoint by the bridge, but again, the information we have is that he came out of an abandoned yard from behind some area on Magazine Road.”
