Around four Saturday morning twenty-eight year old Michael Pou was shot and killed at the Copacabana Latin Club situated at the corner of Handyside and Queen Streets in Belize City. Police say preliminary investigations reveal that Pou was asked to leave the establishment after he became involved in an altercation with one of the establishment?s security guards. Pou reportedly responded by pulling out a handgun and firing several shots at the guard who returned fire. The bullet caught Pou in the right side of the chest and he died shortly after on the street. The family, however, disputes the report. According to Denise Forman, who did not wish to appear on camera, her boyfriend was leaving the club when he was shot in the back

?As far as I know–I just went to the police station and they are supposed to be charging him with manslaughter this afternoon at the court. But as far as I know, manslaughter is murder because in manslaughter if you get provoked or something fi mek you do it; but it?s something out of bad mind because they never had to shoot him.?
Jacqueline Woods for News Five.
This afternoon Soberanis was charged with manslaughter in Magistrate’s Court where he was offered bail of ten thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount. Soberanis could not meet bail and has been remanded to Hattieville Prison until his next court appearance scheduled for June sixteenth. According to our unofficial count, Pou’s death is homicide number thirty-six for 2005.
