Anglican teachers honoured for excellence
As students countrywide honour their teachers today, Anglican Schools are preparing to recognise some of their own outstanding educators. On Saturday night, five teachers from Anglican Schools will be rewarded with the Spotlight of Excellence Award. According to the General Manager of Anglican Schools Carol Babb, the event is one sure way to demonstrate how proud the management is of its educators’ committed efforts and excellence. This afternoon she introduced us to five of the Belize City finalists and explained how the women were chosen.
Carol Babb, General Manager, Anglican Schools
?The teacher had to be very committed to education. The teacher had to be very interested in children, willing to go the extra mile for children. The teacher had to be a role model to the children and the teacher had to love and really care for children.?
Ardeth Satchwell, Teacher, Anglican Cathedral College
?I think it is something that I grew up with. My mother is a teacher, my sister is a teacher; teaching is within the family. So it has to be a passion and you have to really care about your students as well.?
Cheree King, Teacher, Queen Square Anglican
?Children come from a lot of different family backgrounds, and a lot of them, even those from the families that might be caring and have it more financially to support their children, they are still many different ways that the teachers can help them by showing care and love to them and reaching out to them, especially to those that might have special needs.?
?It was not something I was looking for. I try to do my best in my job and I help around the church and my community, but it?s just something that I do willingly, voluntarily, and without looking out for any awards and rewards from it. So it was something that I was not looking out for at all.?
The winning teachers will travel to the United States to attend the International Reading Association Conference. Saturday’s award ceremony gets underway at seven p.m. at the Princess Hotel.
