No motive yet in Cayo murder

A mysterious gunshot in Cayo has resulted in the death of one man and left police searching for clues. Around eight on Monday night, forty-two year old Miguel Angel Guevara was with friends in his yard playing cards, when the peace and quiet of the Seven Miles community on the Mountain Pine Ridge Road, was shattered by the sound of a gunshot. This was followed by a cry from Guevara, who had been hit by a single bullet to his back. He collapsed to the ground and was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital, but was dead on arrival. Police say the people who were present at the victim’s house are cooperating with the investigation and have indicated that the sound of the gunshot came from the nearby bush. Several theories have been put forward for the tragedy including the remote possibility that a hunter in the area may have shot at wild game and the errant bullet hit Guevara. Of course, police are primarily focusing on homicide and are asking anyone with information that might help to solve the killing to contact San Ignacio police or Crimestoppers.
