Mechanic crushed to death by truck
A Belize City mechanic is dead after he was crushed to death by a vehicle he was repairing. Forty-nine year old George Lewis was fixing a cargo truck belonging to Jose Novelo on Saturday morning when the tragedy occurred. According to police reports, after Lewis had been working on the vehicle, he asked Novelo to start the engine. Apparently unaware that Lewis remained underneath and that the truck was in gear, Novelo hit the ignition and the vehicle immediately lurched backward. The front wheel rolled over Lewis, crushing him. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival. Police continue to question Novelo and Press Officer G. Michael Reid says that at the conclusion of the investigation the findings will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice on how to proceed.
