Gun Recovered, But Smith’s Killer Still on the Loose
Tonight, another cold-blooded killer remains on the loose despite the recovery of this nine millimeter Glock pistol, believed to have been used in the murder of eighteen-year-old Anthony Smith. The teenager was gunned down on Friday night as he rode his bicycle along Central American Boulevard in the direction of Freedom Street. It is unclear what Smith was doing in the area since he had been sent on an errand by his parent in another part of town. Whatever it was that brought him to Port Loyola resulted in tragedy, as the lone gunman pursued him and opened fire on him. In attempting to flee the scene, the shooter turned his handgun on responding officers and after a brief firefight, made good his escape on foot by running through a nearby property. In an interview with the media on Monday, Superintendent Hilberto Romero indicated that Smith had been experiencing problems with individuals in that neighborhood. The angle of gang involvement has not been ruled out of the police investigation.
