Strange death in Stann Creek Valley

A freak accident in the Stann Creek district has left one man dead and investigating officers scratching their heads. According to police, around nine on Saturday night, nineteen-year-old Hipolito Gonzalez was riding his bicycle on the Stann Creek Valley Road when he crashed into a pedestrian near mile thirteen. One eyewitness told police that he saw both men get up and dust themselves off but a few seconds later, Gonzalez lost consciousness and collapsed. The teenager was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was treated for a wound to his right eye and a small cut to the back of the head. Because of his condition, medical personnel arranged to have Gonzalez transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but he died en route. A post-mortem has revealed Gonzalez died from a blow from a blunt object. Police have since detained the pedestrian Gonzalez collided with for questioning. The authorities are tonight asking for anyone with information that might assist in the investigation to please contact the nearest police station.
