Mennonite Man Killed in Tragic Accident
A tragic accident just outside August Pine Ridge in the Orange Walk District has left one man dead, and his wife and two small children injured. Preliminary investigations indicate that Mennonite Johan Knelsen was driving a horse and buggy toward August Pine Ridge, along with his wife, his two year old daughter and seven week old son. At around eight-thirty that night, a black Toyota Hilux driven by thirty-eight year old David Blatz, also heading toward August Pine Ridge, slammed full on into the back of the buggy. When Police responded shortly after, they found Knelsen badly injured on the side of the road, along with his wife and small children who had varying degrees of injuries. Knelsen was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at around eleven p.m. Blatz has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution pending the conclusion of the investigation.
