Lab 2 Features Briheda Haylock
Also as a part of Katie Usher’s Lab-Two installation going on at the Image Factory, several creative minds from across the country have started putting on exhibitions and artistic shows for everyday since Monday. Today when we stopped in at the Image Factory, local artist, Briheda Haylock was showcasing her own eye-poignant piece.
Briheda Haylock, Artist
“I was inspired by all the domestic violence that has been on the news lately and it got me thinking, ‘why are women being so abused?” And even on a regular basis, like street harassment. What have I done to be a woman to be attacked so much and the piece isn’t showing any domestic violence but I want to show the beauty of a woman and to show the sin, I threw the paint on the model. So, there are the beautiful pictures and then there is the paint on her. What I am also doing is interactive. I ask people who come in to see it- I read the statement to them- “My only sin is being a woman” and then I ask them, what a sin of woman is. Everyone has their own thing. For me, I am very curious.”
Lab runs from the thirteenth to the twenty-seventh. Artists to be featured in upcoming labs include Yasser Musa, Valerie Pennell, Ruhiel Trejo, Jamaul Roots, and Giannie Martinez. To see the labs with Kyraan Gaboural and Dwayne Murillo, that have taken place since Monday, you can visit the image factory website.
