Body found in Mopan River
San Ignacio police are tonight working with their Guatemalan counterparts in connection with the discovery of the body of a man in the Mopan River on Thursday. According to authorities, around two-thirty on Thursday afternoon, officers visited an area of Riverbank near the village of Succotz, where they retrieved the corpse of a Hispanic man floating in the water. The body was clothed in a pair of black three-quarter jeans, a black t-shirt, and blue and white Nike tennis shoes. It also bore a tattoo on the left forearm with the number fifty bordered with flowers. News Five understands that a police patrol travelling in the village the night before had spotted a man of similar description but upon seeing the police vehicle, the man jumped into river and disappeared. The body has yet to be identified and it is strongly suspected he is a Guatemalan national. If you believe you can assist the police in their investigations, please visit or call the San Ignacio police station.
