New addition for Salvation Army School

It’s one thing to sign a contract… and another to actually complete a project. Today some very proud educators and officials marked the culmination of yet another new school addition. It’s a process that, with our rapidly expanding population, never seems to slow down. News Five’s Jacqueline Woods reports.

It may have taken a while–ten years to be exact–but finally the students at Salvation Army School will find classes a little bit more conducive to learning, thanks to a new two-storey concrete building that replaces an old wooden structure.

?The children were in one position, they could not move around in the classroom. It was terrible and to make matters worse, the lighting was terrible. Then we did not have any air because we were blocked by this new building that was put up on the side here. So therefore it was very, very hot and congested and intolerable.?

The new building?s ground floor will house a computer laboratory, kitchen, dining, utility and storerooms, and bathroom facilities while the upper flat will house two classrooms and the principal?s office.

?My dream actually was three storeys, so we still actually have one more to go for the area. But we hope that somewhere down the line we will be able to get that accomplished.?

Presently, the school has an enrolment of two hundred and thirty-six students and nine teachers. Jacqueline Woods for News Five.

The building cost over two hundred and ninety-three thousand dollars with virtually all of the funding was provided through the Commonwealth Debt Initiative Programme of the United Kingdom Government. The project was administered through the Social Investment Fund.
