Investigation into Fatal Hope Creek Shooting Continues; No Interdiction of Officers
It’s been almost two weeks since Hope Creek resident, Leopold Myvette, was shot and killed in the south by police officers attached to the Dangriga Police Formation. Police say that construction worker pointed a gun at them and they responded with gunfire. Myvette was shot to the shoulder, abdomen and thigh and collapsed behind a church in the village as he fled the barrage of bullets from the officers. Family and eyewitnesses believe excessive and unjustified force was used and say that, contrary to claims by police, the twenty-eight year old did not have a gun. Both an internal and criminal investigation are still ongoing at this time, statements have been recorded and News Five has been informed that a case file will soon be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for her review. That will determine whether any charges will be levied against the officers on patrol that night. News Five has been reliably informed that the officers have not been placed on interdiction.
