Protests are small outside city
Although Belize City has been the focal point of the most recent civil unrest, in other parts of the country various union and citizens’ groups have also mounted protests. This footage, provided by Centaur TV in Orange Walk, shows a small demonstration in that town in which a few dozen protestors marched with placards on the main boulevard, asking motorists to honk their horns in support. Schools and government offices in Orange Walk were reported to be fully manned and functioning normally.
In Belmopan, a Public Service Union release claimed that its Cayo branch held a “massive solidarity rally” attended by over five hundred workers at its national headquarters. We were unable to independently verify this claim although residents of the area tell News Five that while a union meeting was held this afternoon, attendance appeared to be far less than five hundred.
