Why Should O.A.S. Intercede in F.O.B. Brouhaha?

The bold move by the N.T.U.C.B., according to Rogers, is an about-face from the trade union’s flip-flop on the Petrocaribe issue.

“I must give big kudos before I turn over the mic to Brother Hubert, to the N.T.U.C.B.   They put out that powerful statement establishing that, N.T.U.C.B. mein.  Ih mi look like dehn di waiver but dehn cohn good, dehn cohn good.  Dehn di mek up fi da wavering pan di Petrocaribe.  Dis thing mein, ah noh wahn read all ah it because ih lee lengthy but we wahn staat down da di good part.  “The N.T.U.C.B. notes the following: Our foreign minister in speaking keeps on saying that we are on our way to the ICJ as if it’s a done deal.  The N.T.U.C.B. sees this to be conniving ahead of the referendum that needs to be held.  And whether Belizeans are in agreement to even go into the ICJ.  As these kinds of statements imply that the vote has already been a yes.  We note that there is no guarantee that the Belizean will be voting in favor of having the ICJ settle the Belize/Guatemala Dispute.  The N.T.U.C.B. calls for full disclosure on whether it is the G.O.B.’s position to keep speaking on the ICJ referendum as a done deal.  It is certainly a disservice to Belize and to all the Belizean people for G.O.B. to keep on blaming patriotic Belizeans for the attacks or bullying Guatemala has orchestrated against Belizeans.  It is regrettable that our government would seek to detract from what appears to be concessions after concessions to Guatemala’s demand by claiming that it is Belizeans who continue to provoke Guatemala’s response.  It now appears to the N.T.U.C.B. that the confidence building measures that the government has engaged in at the hands of the O.A.S. are not designed to build the confidence of Belizeans in their right to the entire eight thousand, eight hundred and sixty-seven square miles of Belize, our waters and cayes excluded.  On the contrary Guatemala seems to be the only one gaining confidence here.  The question therefore that lingers is who stands to benefit from these confidence building measures?”
