Cayo tops Kremandala Lake in B.P.F.L. action
Good evening, I?m James Adderley with this week?s edition of Sports Monday. In week thirteen of the Regent Insurance Cup Tournament, the B.P.F.L. finds itself with mounting problems as teams make that final dash to make the playoffs. In the hunt for a spot on the four-team post season roster is the Cayo Avengers who were in town yesterday to face Kremandala Lake, a team already out of the 2005 playoff picture.
The visitors are looking for the quick goal with this nice right foot bomb that inches over the crossbar. However, first half is a time basically bereft of highlights for both ballclubs since neither team could put together any prolonged possession.
In second half, the action would pick up and the Avengers show intent when they fire this long range missile, collected by Stanley Reneau. It?s some sixteen minutes after intermission when this push from Edmund ?The Buzzard? Pandy finds Patrick Miller who gets time to right the left foot and Cayo Avengers take a 1-zip lead.
The visitors press for more off this outside push that slides past the goalmouth in front of the reaching Reneau.
On this trip down field, the perfect pass finds Albert Vasquez who does come up with the goal. The Cayo Avengers get all three points with a much needed 2-zip big W over Krem.
In other action around the league, Sagitun and San Pedro rallied to a 1-1 draw; Calcutta Bulls handled Juventus with a 1-zip W; while Kulture Yabra refused to show up at Dangriga because of several rulings handed down by the Disciplinary committed affecting their status.
Folks, as we look at this situation we can only say that Sagitun with one match to go, leads with thirty points; Juventus is stalled at twenty-three; the San Pedro Seahawks have stepped up to twenty-two points, but so we have the Cayo Avengers. In the meantime the Calcutta Bulls have gotten all three points from last week?s draw with Kremandala Lake according to the league?add this week?s win and the Bulls, the only team with two matches remaining, now possess seventeen points and can finish with twenty-three, which put them in serious contention against both the San Pedro Seahawks and Cayo Avengers. Kulture Yabra remain with thirteen points, having not played over the weekend and might have withdraw from the season; Kremandala Lake has amassed eleven points, because of the suspended match with the Bulls; while Print Belize Griga might just get the three points forfeited by Yabra over the weekend, but at press time they?re still pointless as far as we are concerned. As soon as we can lay hold of the official standings, we will be passing it on to you.
Turning to the basketball scene, we head to the WIN-Belize female competition in session at the City Centre Friday night as Maria Chang Eagles clashed with Maria Chang Second Edition.
The copy will always have a hard time with the original as displayed early when Earlette Reynolds steals from Shenique Michaels?finds her team mate who gets the easy two.
In fact, the Edition is down 6-zip before Shelmadine Cacho comes up with their first bucket right here. She would finish with twenty-six of her team?s thirty-three points.

Looking at this Friday?s schedule, Maria Chang Second Edition takes on BSH Lions, while it?s a biggie when Sparkles battles Maria Chang Eagles; two perennial archrivals at the very top of female basketball in this country. You won?t want to miss it.
In lawn tennis news, Michael Meighan and Eugene Bautista convincingly combined their efforts to down Billy Musa Junior and Curtis Musa 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets to emerge winners in the Men?s Open Doubles staged at the Belize Pickwick Club over the weekend.
On the ladies side, Samira Pott and Maureen Utsman beat Sofia Sosa and Lauren Mena 6-2, 6-2 for that title.
In the over fifty class, Sony Meighan and Billy Musa rolled past Eric Wright and Alex Larsner 6-1, 6-4; while in the thirty-five and over category David Madrid and Jose Ramos beat Ian McField and Eamon Courtenay.
Finally in softball news, this weekend of April twenty-ninth to May first, that?s next weekend, brings up the second Central American Juvenile Softball Championship inside Roger?s Stadium featuring Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua in an international quadrangular. Hey, you can?t afford to miss this Belizeans, but we must say, goh deh strong Belize.
