Three families homeless after Pickstock fire
While the ongoing political dramas have dominated the headlines, other more routine events continued to unfold. In Belize City, firemen were pressed into action early Monday morning on Pickstock Street in one of the most congested areas of the north side.
Henry Baizar, Fire Chief
?When the guys arrived there, where the fire started was engulfed in flames and there were three other houses starting to catch fire. And so the guys had to quickly decide to not allow the fire to go to other houses, so they actually got into operation and started outing the other three houses and allow the other one to burn. We have to say it that way, but that?s what we had to do to avoid a catastrophe out there.?
?The fire started at the downstairs of the house that burnt because when we got there that?s where the fire was concentrated. And from statements that we take from other people that saw the fire at the early stage, because one guy said that he was the one who went upstairs to woke the guy who lives upstairs. And when he passed there, that?s where the fire was, in some kitchen that they make nachos or something like that.?
A total of three families have been left homeless. The National Fire Service has not yet determined what started the blaze.
