Lawyer charged with obstruction
Belize City lawyer Hubert Elrington was taken into police custody this afternoon after he allegedly tried to prevent police from searching a home in San Ignacio. Police at the station confirmed that they detained Elrington pending charges of obstruction. Officers arrived at the house of Bobby Vasquez around one-thirty to look for a laptop computer, two cell phones, and tape deck reportedly stolen from a vehicle belonging to an American citizen. Police say although they presented the search warrant, Elrington stood in the doorway and refused to let the officers into the house. It is also alleged that he verbally abused the officers. Word from Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid this evening is that Elrington was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest, and using indecent words. He was granted and met bail this evening.
