Fire destroys home on highway
With the dry weather on us, there is a lot of smoke in the air from brush fires. But this afternoon it was a house fire at mile two and a half on the Western Highway that caused a commotion. By the time fire fighters arrived on the scene, however, there was no way to save the burning building. Assistant Fire Chief Ted Smith says it is still not known what ignited the blaze.

?When we arrived here the entire structure, the entire upper flat, was already engulfed in flames. In our terminology, it was in the free burning phase and the open stage. So it was already freely burning in the structure and also on the external perimeter of the structure.?
Smith says reports indicate that the building is normally occupied by an elderly woman, but no one was injured in today’s fire. It is not certain if the building was insured.
